3D Conformal Treatment

Relies on using images of the patient obtained by a CT scan in the same position as the treatment will be administered. The obtained images are reconstructed in three dimensions (3D).

Powerful computers simulate the treatment by proposing the optimal combination of beams for each location and incorporating the doses prescribed by the doctors to achieve the appropriate treatment for the patient. These computers, equipped with comprehensive planning software known as treatment planning systems, perform complex algorithms to calculate the dose distribution represented in three dimensions on computer screens.

The result is what is called the ‘dosimetric report,’ which includes, among other details, the setup parameters for the treatment units, as well as the doses in various risk organs and the monitor units (MUs) that the machine must deliver to complete the treatment.
